ELTRA powers up product data
For many years, ELTRA has ensured reliable distribution of electrical installation equipment, backed by a strong private label and high-performance solutions for professionals. Today, the company is naturally extending this approach into the digital world, with an explicit focus on product data as a strategic driver.
For ELTRA, integrating the QR code by GS1 was not an experiment, but a strategic choice.
The ambition was clear: to provide transparent product information, anticipate upcoming European regulations, and strengthen the digital connection with customers.
The need for accurate and consistent data across the entire value chain also played a central role. Jan De Kimpe, Quality Assurance Officer, explains more.
“For us, the motivation was actually threefold,” Jan explains. “First, we wanted to provide our customers with accurate and transparent data. Second, we wanted to anticipate European developments such as the Digital Product Passport. Finally, we felt it was essential to offer dynamic data that can be updated at any time and accessed directly by the end user.”
This choice led to particularly smooth collaboration with GS1. Regular meetings made it possible to move forward quickly and ensure perfect alignment at every stage of the project. “We were really able to react quickly,” Jan emphasizes. “That made a real difference in how the project progressed.”
Internally as well, significant effort went into building support for the initiative. Thanks to clear communication and a structured presentation, the GS1 system was fully integrated and embraced by the teams. This internal approach proved essential in embedding the system across the entire organisation.
Today, ELTRA is not only satisfied with the journey completed so far, but is also looking ahead. The next step is to further enrich product information through GS1, adding not only product data and images, but also documents directly linked to the products.
Furthermore, ELTRA is considering a broader implementation of GS1 standards across Europe, involving more suppliers and manufacturers through unique identifiers such as GTINs.
This will help make the supply chain more seamless and transparent.
Their advice to other companies is clear:
“Adopt the GS1 approach, and in particular the opportunities offered by their QR codes. By fully integrating them into your systems, you will be ready for the future while immediately creating value for your customers.”
Jan also emphasises the importance of actively involving suppliers and producers in this approach, in order to jointly build standardised, future-ready product data.
