Publication of the new GS1 Benelux datamodel DIY, garden & pet (August 2025)

The new version of the GS1 Benelux data model for the DIY, garden & pet sector (3.1.32) has been published. It will go live on 23 August 2025. Retailers will receive data according to the new data model from then on. Suppliers should therefore ensure that any changes have been implemented by then.

Key changes:

  • Harmonising validations across multiple sectors and throughout the Benelux region for those attributes where there are no conflicting instructions.
  • Activating GPC bricks for registering cut flowers/miscellaneous cut greenery, skirting boards/cornices, spare parts for air compressors, and home/office tables/desks.
  • Adding extra validations when using energy source and supplier item code.
  • Enabling validation of net content usage for the Belgian target market (this was already mandatory in the Netherlands).
  • Validating the use of contact details, requiring that at least one group of contact information clearly indicates it belongs to the licence holder.
  • Adding an extra tab with a history of GPC additions/changes/removals including dates, reasons, and alternatives (in case of removal).
  • Applying various changes in international GDSN code lists and attributes.
  • Providing additional explanations where multiple coding options are available.
  • Adding clarifications to indication fields (such as low noise, water-saving, etc.) stating that these attributes refer to general language usage and carry no legal value.
  • Adding various FSC/PEFC attributes for bricks where this information may be relevant.
  • Adding various battery indication attributes for bricks where this information may be relevant.
  • Updating various website references where existing links no longer led to active pages.

Expired attributes

From August 23, certain attributes will be discontinued. These attributes were originally defined based on the needs of the time, but these needs have changed over the years, and data is now exchanged differently. For several of these discontinued attributes, replacement attributes are available and can be found in the published data model.

The discontinued attributes include:

  • The way of indicating water repellency, presence of dispenser, type of mounting, type of connection, etc., has been changed: from indication fields to attributes already equipped with possible values.
  • Some attributes existed both as an indication field and as a selectable value in a picklist.
  • Where possible, we align with internationally available attributes.

GS1 Price Message

The changes below will be implemented in the GS1 Price Message (3.0.2).
The new version will be available as of 23 August.

  • The allowed length of the field Short product name has been changed from 35 to 40 characters, aligning the price message with the GS1 datapool.
  • A few changes have been made to the field Assortment group code:
    • Addition of group USB lighting
    • Addition of group Carnival items
    • Reactivation of groups Crop protection/pesticides, split into organic and synthetic
