Easily share your product CO₂ emissions via My Product Manager

Have you already measured the carbon footprint of your products? Would you now like to easily share this information with others, such as customers or partners? From 24 May, this will be possible in a standardised way via My Product Manager, the platform from GS1 Belgilux.

More and more companies are requesting CO₂ data

Large companies increasingly want to know how much CO₂ is emitted during the production and delivery of products. They are asking their suppliers to provide this data.
Without this information, businesses may decide to stop working with certain suppliers.

It’s not just companies that want more insight into CO₂ emissions. Reporting on CO₂ impact is part of the CSRD legislation involving ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) reporting. While this is (currently) not mandatory for smaller companies, larger businesses are increasingly asking their suppliers to share data on CO₂ emissions.

How does GS1 help?

Together with other companies across Europe, GS1 has developed a standard to easily and clearly share CO₂ emissions per product. This standard is integrated into the data model and therefore also into My Product Manager.

You can indicate:

  • how much CO₂ a product emits;
  • which part of the product life cycle this refers to (e.g. production or transport);
  • which calculation method you used.

Advantages of this standard

Efficiency

You only need to enter the data once, instead of doing it separately for each customer.

Clarity

Everyone uses the same method to share CO₂ data, which creates clarity.

Comparability

Customers can better compare products in terms of sustainability.

What else can you share via My Product Manager?

In addition to CO₂ emissions, you can also share other environmental data, such as:

  • information about packaging;
  • labels and certifications;
  • whether a product contains plant-based or animal-based proteins.

Ready to get started?

The new CO₂ data features will be available from 24 May. A clear guide is available to show you exactly how to do this.

Make sure you know which information you need, for example regarding the calculation of CO₂ emissions and the part of the product process being measured.
