A tailor-made training, seasoned to the taste of Manna Foods

For 90 years, Manna Foods has been bringing flavour to the table with their iconic hot and cold sauces. As a fourth-generation family business, they combine tradition with a future-oriented mindset. That innovative drive doesn’t stop at their recipes, Manna Foods is also focused on improving their product data and digital processes.

That’s why this summer, their marketing and sales team reached out to GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg for a tailor-made training. Manna Foods has been working with GS1 for over 15 years but wanted to dive deeper in the GS1 standards at this stage and explore how to make their internal processes even more efficient.

Better to stir the pot together than cook separately

“We wanted to be sure we were working with correct data and following the right processes,” says Kim Corthouts, marketing & sales officer.

A standard training isn’t always sufficient. Manna Foods wanted interaction, concrete answers to their own questions, and above all: the chance to learn together in one room. “It was refreshing to sit together as a team. New ideas came up right away. That’s something you miss during an online webinar. We could ask specific questions and immediately relate it to our own practice,” Kim explains.

What did they learn?

“The training gave us clear tools to improve our processes. You don’t start from theory but from a concrete action plan you can apply in the near future,” says Kim.

The training was broad and practice-focused. Some of the key takeaways:

  1. Audits: the team learned how to have their sauce labels reviewed and receive immediate suggestions for improvement.
  2. Master data: Manna Foods took first steps towards appointing a solution provider to ensure a smooth and structured data flow.
  3. Packaging and dimensions: they reviewed the accuracy of formats and how products are delivered.

Their advice: get support and save valuable time

According to Kim, the training was mainly time-efficient and to the point:

“You immediately get a clear view of where your company stands and what can be improved. We had never done a session like this before, even though we’ve been around for 90 years. It was a real eye-opener. And the connection with expert Melissa was a real plus: she knew our sector well, gave clear answers and followed up with extra information afterwards. That built trust," Kim adds.
