Brussels, the 17th of March 2009
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been approved by the Board of Directors of GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg (further abbreviated to GS1 Belgilux) on 27th of January 2009.
It invites all members of GS1 Belgilux to align and make progress on the topics identified, as well as to launch migration paths in order to comply to and to implement the agreed standards/guidelines in the MoU.
This MoU is a document describing a multilateral agreement between members of GS1 Belgilux. It expresses a convergence of willingness between members, indicating an intended common line of action. It is no legal commitment or contractual agreement between members. It is a gentlemen's agreement to fulfill the mission statement of GS1 Belgilux:
"GS1 Belgilux proactively supports the implementation of the global GS1 standards and collaboration concepts in order to achieve greater efficiency and/or quality in the value chain in Belgium and the GD of Luxembourg. In this way, the consumer will be served faster, better and at lower cost."
Members of GS1 Belgilux signing this MoU have agreed on the following:
1. GS1 eCom

As from the 17th of March 2009, parties commit themselves to prepare migration to the above mentioned eCom-messages.
As from the 1st of January 2010, parties who do not yet exchange electronically their business messages, commit themselves to start eCom with Belgian & Luxembourg trading partners.
Parties commit themselves to launch collaborative projects with a positive impact on sustainability. E.g. parties engage themselves to reduce the empty truck loads whilst at the same time reducing the CO2 emission.
3. Data synchronisation
Parties (re-)commit themselves to implement the GDSN standards and implementation guidelines and to synchronise the product data with their trading partners making use of a certified GDSN data pool.
4. GS1 Barcodes
As from the 1st of January 2011, retailers and their franchise partners, suppliers and solution providers commit themselves to implement GS1 DataBar respecting the agreed implementation guidelines.
